Ulster-based textile manufacturer RA Irwin & Co Ltd has received major recognition by Hillarys, the UK’s largest producer of window blinds.
Irwin’s programme of research and development has resulted in a superior range of textiles being developed, fully exploiting the flexibility and reproductive quality of the medium. They are able to control the whole process, applying the print prior to coating and finishing. It is a significant advantage to be able to produce short runs of exclusive designs without the need for high origination or engraving costs as with traditional textile printing. ‘Made in the UK’ is a phrase that unfortunately you hear less and less these days, especially when applied to textiles. However, RA Irwin, based at Portadown and Milltown, continues to thrive with a 100 per cent UK-manufactured product. Recent years have seen substantial investments in weaving capacity and finishing and coating equipment. Their design studio houses the most up-to-date digital facilities and a talented team of designers who stay constantly aware of and inspired by trends in contemporary design and changing consumer tastes.
