With 26 years’ experience in the shading sector, Grants Shading Solutions know what architects Collado Collins were looking for...
When the architects Collado Collins, behind the design and construction of this exciting and prestigious project, were put in touch with Grants Shading Solutions they say they knew that they had found the right supplier.
F rom previously working on this project with larger well known shading suppliers they had come up against a brick wall in finding a solution for the curved glazing area on the fifth floor offering spectacular views of the City of London. Shading was to ‘make or break’ this project and without a solution the design impact would be interrupted.
Not only were the combination of two different radial curves in the glazing structure presenting a problem but also the sheer size of the area, 2600mm wide panel with a curvature length approaching 7 metres. The architects were not willing to compromise on the design aspects to achieve the shading required to make the New Extension meet stringent regulations and practical requirements of Solar Heat Gain and Glare reduction – ‘everything must follow the curve of the glazing and be completely out of sight when not required’.
Grants Shading Solutions offered a solution that would meet all these requirements and more, thanks to its experience gained in this specialist field over 26 years in the business.
Whilst supplying blinds for all glazed areas, Grants get involved in many one off applications where design is paramount. Following working closely together with the Architects on all aspects of the design an order was placed for the whole glazed area but included for a full sized Prototype to be created for the Architects and Contractors’ approval. During a visit to the Factory the prototype was met with considerable enthusiasm ‘better than we dared hope for, absolutely amazing’.
The impact on site is no less! – The completed installation of the blinds is and looks ‘absolutely amazing’ The Architectural efforts of design have been complimented rather than covered bringing a dream into a practical and workable reality.
