Since the invention of the metal venetian blind in 1946, the innovative spirit of Hunter Douglas continues to lead the way in the development of revolutionary new products to meet the increasing demand for design-led fashion and functionality. This innovative approach already resulted in three high profile industry awards in 2009.
Aad Kuiper, president & CEO of Hunter Douglas European Operations is very pleased with the Innovation Awards: "This is the result of our culture and strategy to always strive, without making compromises, for the most innovative products and to positively surprise our customers, again and again.”
The first prize, supported by the R+T exhibition in Stuttgart, for Interior Sun Protection was awarded to Hunter Douglas for the Luxaflex MegaView venetian blind. The Innovation Award is well-established and enjoys international recognition. The focal points for the award were innovation, quality, everyday usefulness and market opportunities of the innovation. Luxaflex MegaView, gives the user the option of an enhanced view to the outside by tilting the slats to give a ‘double view’. This 25mm slat blind opens and closes as normal, but the ingenious new feature of this model is that when tilting the slats open, every alternate slat springs up and clings invisibly to the slat above it, creating a broader 50mm view even with narrower 25mm slats. Luxaflex MegaView is part of the exciting new collection of Aluminium Venetian blinds.
The second Innovation Prize, showcased at the Heimtextil Exhibition in Frankfurt, was awarded to Hunter Douglas for Luxaflex Duette Architella Shades. This ‘ingenious’ shade features a honeycomb pleated fabric construction with three air pockets, making it ‘one of the most distinctive and energy efficient’ shades available. As well as having superior insulating properties, this blind also significantly reduces solar heat gain thus reducing energy bills.
Luxaflex MegaView venetian blinds and Luxaflex Duette Architella Shades are available immediately as Luxaflex branded products
The third Innovation Prize, supported by Interior Concepts trade publication, was awarded at the Intirio exhibition in Gent for Parametre, a Sunway Benelux product, designed by 3Form, a Hunter Douglas company. Parametre is an innovative window decoration made from lightweight polyester Duette material with a unique 3D cell structure, created by punching holes in two different patterns in the base material. Parametre plays with light and shadow and the applications for Parametre are numerous: partitions, window decoration, light diffusers, room dividers, wall hangings etc. creating unique spaces in commercial and residential applications. Parametre, is an architectural product which will be available in the UK in the near future. As a responsible, environmentally-aware company, Hunter Douglas says it is committed to producing superior quality innovative window styling products and is delighted with the recognition received with these three individual Innovation awards.
