For those who are keen to spring into style this season, leading interior design company Connections in Design, gives homeowners an insight into the key trends.
These looks are simple to recreate but incorporate that all important ‘wow’ factor. Dawn Kitchener, managing director of Connections in Design, explains the concept: “Although all three themes for this spring are extremely different in their approach, they epitomise good design and taste. The styles we’ve selected, namely ‘Natural Glitz’, ‘Artsy Craftsy’ and ‘Tones’ are inspired from our recent trips to Paris and are already being integrated into several of our projects.” Natural Glitz showcases the natural with the artificial, complementing organic items such as pearl, bleached wood and fabrics including cotton, linen and hessian with man made finishes and textures such as gold, bronze and shiny silver. Dawn commented: “We love the combination of natural textures and the glamour of the gold and bronze in particular.” For those looking to make more of a statement in their interior design, Connections in Design has created ‘Artsy Craftsy’. This style demonstrates expression can be made through all the colours of the rainbow. “This theme highlights that we can still think about the environment on several levels when promoting good style,” continued Dawn. “We have been using recycled materials, and keeping the worldwide tradition of crafts alive. Think ethnic bold stripes, checks and prints coupled with smooth recycled plastics.” Artsy Craftsy, according to Dawn, promotes a sense of fun through interior design, highlighting childish colours and desires for creativity and enjoyment. This design is best suited to those with an awareness of global forward thinking and the environment as a whole. The final trend Connections in Design is emphasising for Spring 2008 is Tones, a look that focuses more on colour and texture. A good example of this style is a sophisticated and soft palette, e.g. lavender, grey, aubergine, taupes with purplish reds making a strong statement. The look also delves into fabrics such as wool, raw silks, linens and tweeds, creating a subtle and refined finish. Dawn added: “Tones is a complete reaction to total excess, we’ve stripped the look back to its bare essentials, making it simple, yet effective. Then, adding back the subtlety of detail including calm curved lines promoting a sense of harmony and security the trend is devoid of aggression or strong primary colours, it is quite beautiful. “Spring looks set to be a very exciting season for design this year, individuality will be essential to select from a whole host of new, and to start your thought process, some beautiful styles to develop.
