Charter-Integr8 says its Shutters installed at a new IT block in Scotland offer both security and minimise solar gain as they act as venetian blinds

Charter-Integr8 Brise Soleil security shutters have been installed at a new IT block in Largs Academy, Scotland. Manufactured and supplied by Charter, the prime reason for specifying the shutters was security, as the new IT suite is an attractive target for thieves due to the high value of the computer equipment. Charter-Integr8 Brise Soleil shutters offer a significantly increased level of protection against break-ins but also act as venetian blinds, so solar gain is minimised, reducing the need for air conditioning.

The new suite, designed and built by North Ayrshire Council, is separate from the main school with six classrooms and its own heating system, and the £1.6m project came in on time and under budget. The shutters were finished in Royal Blue to co-ordinate with the gutters, rainwater pipes and the windows, enhancing the building’s appearance.

According to the architect at North Ayrshire Council; “Roller shutters were needed for security purposes, but Charter’s unique Brise Soleil shutters control light too, and can be used to black-out rooms altogether. The new IT suite is a resounding success and both teachers and pupils are delighted.”
