With the increased pressure on removing smokers from public places it is going to be more difficult for restaurants to capitalize on this element of their trade and, at the same time, meet the new social obligations. Outside eating is now a well-established factor in the restaurant trade but it is restricted to fine days which, as this year has shown, can be rather limited in the UK.
A number of awning options have always been available and Deans are probably the leading installer of such systems, particularly in the south of the England. However, whatever we do to make awnings provide all-weather protection they have never been specifically designed for this purpose and should always be retracted in windy conditions.
These systems can be specified in a number of timber finishes or in powder coated aluminium and numerous options are available including trellis work, windows and buffer boards. Withstanding wind speeds of over 73km/hr in their extended form diners who also like to smoke can do so outdoors “ indoors! Deans is the sole UK representatives of this new awning system

With the advent of the Pergotenda and Coverpact systems this is no longer the case. Developed in Italy these systems are specifically designed for use in all except the most extreme of situations, (snow for instance is excluded) and they are entirely waterproof.
