Trietex goes sky-high
Monday, 25 October 2010 00:00

Trietex, the German manufacturer of motors for window coverings, has concluded its biggest project for motorised curtains to date, at the Marina Bay Sands hotel in Singapore.

Approximately 6,500 motors were installed in the 20-hectare integrated resort (pictured), which incorporates a 2560-room hotel, 120,000m2 convention centre, shopping mall, museum, two theatres, six restaurants, two floating pavilions and a casino with 500 tables. Billed as the world’s most expensive standalone casino property at $5.7billion, the complex is topped by the 3,900-capacity ‘SkyPark’ with 150m infinity swimming pool.

Projects of this size featuring motorised curtain tracks are extremely rare. Trietex was chosen for its value for money and experience of other casino hotel projects with the Sands Corporation in Macau.

Installed in each standard room is one EasyTrack Plus 32 for the sheers and one EasyTrack Plus 45 for the curtain on a curtain track system of up to 5m. The motors are controlled by a room control unit and, in case of power failure, the curtains can be opened by hand. Trietex equipped the hotel’s VIP rooms with Elektra 30 motors.

Marina Bay Sands was originally set to open in 2009, but developer Las Vegas Sands faced delays caused by escalating costs, labour shortages and the global economic crisis. The complex has since opened its first phase, marked with a two-day celebration, and is due to be fully completed by December 2010.
