Thermotec – Energy Saving Roller

The energy-saving roller blind Thermotec BLO and Transparent are finished with an IR-reflecting aluminium coating so that a large part of heating energy is reflected by the fabric and remains in the heated room. Thermotec can be used on its own or in combination of the two quality grades.

The primary advantages of Thermotec are:
  • Heating cost savings through energy savings
  • Reduced CO2 emissions through energy savings
  • A large percentage of thermal radiation is reflected and remains in the room because of the special IR-reflecting coat
  • An air cushion is created between the roller blind and window which acts as an insulation layer
  • Thermotec BLO as well as Transparent are air impermeable which reduces air circulation
Junkers & Müllers has had the roller blind material tested by the Fraunhofer Institute for Construction Physics. Here, the following test results were established:

  • Heating cost savings through energy savings
  • Reduced CO2 emissions through energy savings

Junkers & Müllers has had the roller blind material tested by the Fraunhofer Institute for Construction Physics. Here, the following test results were established

Emission coefficient of the roller blind material

  • U-value for system combination of roller blind and glazing
  • Annual heating costs savings in kWh p.a.
  • Annual heating cost savings

Savings potential

The Fraunhofer Institute for Construction Physics based its calculations on a sample apartment measuring 100m² with a 20 per cent window surface, double-glazing and energy-saving roller blinds with lateral guide tracks.


The following measurements were established:

  • If Thermotec BLO remains drawn 24 hours per day:2240 kWh/annum – €177/annum – 1392 kg CO2/annum
  • If Thermotec Transparent remains drawn 24 hours per day:1864 kWh/annum – €148/annum – 1158 kg CO2/annum
  • If Thermotec Transparent and Thermotec BLO are drawn for 12 hours each per day:2052 kWh/annum – €162.50/annum – 1275 kg CO2/annum
