Louvolite says: ‘Should a consumer express a wish to reduce the amount of light entering a room or any given area, don’t automatically assume a large industrial blackout blind’ Blinds & Shutters hears about the alternative “When is a blackout blind not a blackout blind? Typically when it is a blind required to satisfy the majority of domestic installations,’ according to Louvolite. “In such circumstances it is rarely necessary to provide a full blackout system capable of 100 per cent blackout performance akin to that required in an X-ray room. In addition to the significant costs that may be associated with such a product the consumer may also suffer from complex installation requirements which may not actually be required. Instead consider a blind that, whilst not conforming to the industry description of ‘Blackout Blind’ would actually control and negate the vast majority of light coming from the window /roof light or other opening and could totally fulfil the consumer’s requirement. “In reality the blind type can be any blind type which satisfies the criteria – typically, if a fabric blind were used, the fabric would be classed as blackout fabric (totally opaque). Many companies would automatically assume this to be a roller shade product but there are many other fabric types which now meet this criteria. For example whilst Louvolite blackout fabrics, such as Nocturne or Ex-Lite, would fit the bill as a roller shade fabric so too would Louvolite pleated fabric Quartz or their cellular blackout Nova. “In all instances the ability of the fabric to negate light passing through it can be further enhanced by the utilisation of Louvolite’s unique Perfect Fit installation system. As Louvolite Perfect Fit features a discreet aluminium frame in which to house the operating system, the blind rests inside the frame which negates the passage of light around the blind thereby making any lightstrike issue negligible. “ To provide further options the consumer could also specify a venetian blind to fit within the Perfect Fit system. “If the Venetian blind features the re-location of the cording mechanism to the rear of the slat (rather than the more typical central location) the holes in the slat are not visible when the slats are closed. This too can offer a satisfactory solution to the required light control requested by customers and in addition provide a wide span of light control throughout the day. “Fitting a room darkening shade of the customer’s choice to Velux and other rooflight window systems has never been easier. Louvolite Perfect Fit is installed in such applications in seconds and as the customer product and fabric choice is not limited to dedicated blind fabrics the options are vast. “So should a consumer express a wish to reduce the amount of light entering a room or any given area don’t automatically assume a large industrial blackout blind – consider the alternative – Perfect Light control from Louvolite.”
